Dr. LaVerne Lewis is an educator and a global idealist with a passion for making a difference in the lives of women and girls, as a change agent. Lewis is Founder/ CEO of Women-SEW Global Foundation, a nonprofit that creates “global awareness and a response to women and girls, specifically immigrant and refugee, engaged in sewing collectives with intended outcomes of economic and leadership empowerment.” Dr. Lewis is passionate about creating positive social change for women and works across the globe in raising awareness to achieve economic empowerment. Her 14+ years of global immersion work as a volunteer, includes Cuba, Brazil, Greece, Tanzania, Morocco, Peru, Costa Rica, Thailand, China and Jordan (Poland 23).

Lewis has 35+ years as a credentialed tax accountant and owns LaVerne Lewis LLC, a full-service accounting-tax-business start-up resource firm including IRS representation. She was appointed by Oregon’s Governor Brown to the Board of Directors on TriMet, and currently serves District 6, which covers East Multnomah County, OR. Dr. Lewis also previously served as a Board Member on the Mt. Hood Community College Board and other board positions with local community non-profits.

Dr. Lewis holds a doctorate in education from Northcentral University (Prescott, AZ) and a master’s in education and human resources from Colorado State University (Ft. Collins, CO). She is currently adjunct faculty in the Business Department at Portland Community College (PCC).
