The State of Immigrants and Refugees in Oregon: Seeking a Just and Equitable Future

In the fall of 2021, a group of scholars from the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and Portland State University released a new report titled A State of Immigrants: A New Look at the Immigrant Experience in Oregon. The report was produced under the aegis of the University of Oregon’s Labor Education and Research Center and supported by funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s Just Futures Initiative.

“A State of Immigrants” examines how immigrants and refugees in Oregon are navigating the process of social and cultural integration in critical arenas such as education, health, employment, the arts, and civic participation.  The report also offers strategic and policy recommendations that contributors believe would support inclusionary practices and enhance the integration process.

On January 28, 2023, contributors to the report will present their research at a conference in Portland.  The conference has the following objectives:

  • Highlighting not only the economic but also the social, cultural, and civic contributions made by immigrants and refugees.
  • Bringing together a broad spectrum of constituencies to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing immigrants and refugees.
  • Discussing actions and policies that aim to create a more just and equitable future for immigrants and refugees in Oregon.

We are pleased to host this free conference with lunch provided – for more information, please see our FAQ page.
