John C. Arroyo, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in Engaging Diverse Communities and Director of the PNW Just Futures Institute for Racial and Climate Justice at the University of Oregon. He is currently a Whiting Foundation Public Engagement Fellow working. Arroyo’s research focuses on the political and cultural dimensions of immigrant-centered built environments in emerging gateways as well as the role of arts and culture and climate justice in city design. He has published in the Journal of the American Planning Association, Journal of Planning Education and Research, Nexus, CityScape, and other academic and popular outlets. Prior to the UO, Arroyo was an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellow in Latino Studies at the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He received a doctorate in Urban Planning, Policy, and Design as well as a Master’s in City Planning and a Certificate in Urban Design from MIT.
